Souza Lobo Restaurant Case: Calangute’s iconic Souza Lobo Restaurant was attacked on 28th December 2021 by around 80 armed persons. According to sources, a Delhi-based businessman along with 80 people carrying weapons like swords, iron rods, bottles, and guns attacked the famous Souza Lobo restaurant located at Calangute Beach. The owners of the iconic Souza Lobo Restaurant Say they were offered Rs 40 crore by the alleged mastermind of the crime Rajeev Arora to leave the property.
Talking to Media, First-time Business Man Rajeev Arora has come in front of the media and has spoken openly about this incident, He Said this incident took place on 28th of December 2021. That time I was not here in Goa. And I had already booked the ticket for Goa on December 29 along with my children. As I wanted to celebrate the new year in goa with my kids. If I had to get such an incident done in a Souza Lobo Restaurant, why would I bring small children with me? My name has been forcibly taken in this case. Talking further, he told that he is fully cooperating with the crime branch in this case. He reaches the crime branch office at 4 in the early morning. Rajiv’s phone has also been taken by the crime branch officers. According to media reports, no evidence has been found by the Crime Branch against Rajeev Arora yet. Rajeev says if there is any evidence against me then arrest me, I will not even get myself bail.

The owners of Souza Lobo Restaurant Jude Lobo and Laverne Lobo also threatened to hit the streets along with the people if the police failed to investigate the incident and arrest the Delhi-based businessman, who they feel is the main culprit behind the attacks. Jude Lobo and Laverne Lobo say that their property has suffered a loss of about Rs 30 lakh during this incident.
The Lobos have alleged that government and police authorities are manipulating the case since last year the restaurant has been attacked and till now the police have not filed a charge sheet in the first attack that happened in November 2020.
“More than 50 people entered the property and started damaging the property by breaking bottles and throwing stones. They were carrying swords, iron rods. Someone even fired in the air. This is being done to scare us and force us to leave the property. The main culprit Rajeev Arora has offered us Rs 40 crore to leave the property,” the Lobo couple said.
Lobo couple alleged that the attack was pre-planned and feared that if the case is not investigated thoroughly, then there are possibilities that such incidents may occur again in the future.
The Delhi based businessman Rajiv first hired one Sameer Toraskar last year for the attack, Second time the police itself came with the accused person while giving them police protection,” the couple alleged, adding that now one person named Chotu alias Gajendar Singh along with one Sunil Bhomkar had come along with 50 others.
They further informed that construction has been done to set up a dance bar allegedly by Arora. The local panchayat has issued a demolition notice based on the complaint. But till date, none of the other authorities including Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) have initiated any action. The club we have here next to Souza Lobo is not a dance bar but a club for corporate parties,” the Lobos said.
The Crime Branch on Sunday arrested more accused allegedly involved in the recent attack on Souza Lobo restaurant at Calangute. The police gave the names of the accused as Sunil Bhomkar and Pushpendra Meena. They were nabbed at Nasik with the help of the Nasik Crime Branch. Crime Branch PI Filomena Costa is conducting further investigations.
Earlier, the police arrested a hotelier Gajendra Singh alias Chotu and four others in connection with the attack on Souza Lobo restaurant at Calangute. Both Souza Lobo Restaurant owner and the accused filed complaints and counter complaints in the matter.
“The incident was reported on Tuesday (04-01-2022) night. There are two groups and we are verifying. Legal weapon was fired and we have recovered it. We are verifying all the facts and all the accused will be arrested. As per the complaint, there were 15 to 20 persons. We have recovered CCTV footage and we will verify it based on the same”, a top police official had said.
